Last night, Mimi (Riley's grandmother, my mother) and G watched Riley. When we arrived at home, Mom gave me the low-down on how everything went (great, of course!), and finished her sentence with, "Well, I guess I should tell you since he's probably going to tell you in the morning anyway."
Thinking to myself: Uh, Mom, what did you do?
Mom: "We did the usual bedtime routine and I was closing his bedroom door, I said, 'Goodnight...sleep tight...don't let the bedbugs bite.'"
Riley: "Huh?"
Mom: "Goodnight!" (in a trying-to-make-you-forget-about-what-I-just-said voice)
Riley: "What?" (in his I-don't-miss-a-thing voice)
Mom: "Goodnight!!!"
Riley: "Bugs?"
Mom: "No, Riley, there are no bugs in here, they are ALL outside." (she says, as she leaves her grandson alone in a dark room with bugs!!)
I laughed so hard when Mom told me this! The shocker is, Riley hasn't said a word about it today.
March 11, 2009 Update:
Until tonight, Riley hasn't said a word about those pesky bedbugs. Tonight while I was away at Bunco, this was the conversation he had with his Daddy:
Daddy: "Goodnight Riley!"
Riley: "Goodnight Daddy!"
Daddy: "I love you so much."
Riley: "I love you so much."
Daddy: "See you in the morning."
Riley: "Okay Daddy....don't let the bugs bite you!!!"

Hhaha. Poor Riley. I never understood that one either.
The surprise to me is that he let it go that easy!!
